FACT CHECK: Pipeline Won’t Jeopardize Softball Team’s Season

CLAIM: The Daily Local News published an article with a headline claiming that construction of the Mariner East pipeline “may jeopardize” a local softball team’s spring season.

RATING: False, misleading headline.

FACT CHECK

This misleading headline ignores a statement from Energy Transfer–the developer of the Mariner East pipeline–expressing regret over the miscommunication and emphasizing that construction will not interfere with the team’s season.

“We regret that there seems to have been a breakdown in communication between the Meadowbrook Manor HOA leadership, us and the Exton Little League program. We will rework our construction schedule so we do not interfere with the Exton Little League to ensure the girls are able to play what will be a great season.”

Energy Transfer’s statement was buried at the very end of the Daily Local’s article and is in no way reflected in the headline. The Daily Local’s tweets and Facebook posts amplifying the story are just as deceiving, leaving readers unnecessarily upset over a completely misleading presentation of the facts at hand.
